Simplifying processes and workflows makes people more likely to enjoy using them. To implement a business process that has users jumping through hoops, or doing extra work to achieve their results makes the end user more likely to find a workaround. This would nullify any benefit that might have been gained from the improvement.

Next we look to Standardize:

Standardizing work flows, processes and products helps to reduce cost and improve efficiency. For example if every user in the company is using a PC from the same manufacture, the company has one number to call for support, one vendor to call for new equipment and one can easily swap out spare components in the event of a failure. This standardization reduces down time and innately simplifies the Desktop environment of the company.

Finally we Automate:

Any task that is done repetitively or manually is ripe for automation. Each time a human interacts with a process there is the potential for human error. For example a sales representative who takes an order from a customer, faxes it to a processing department who then keys the order into the order processing system. Each of those steps can introduce costly errors and reduce efficiency of the work flow. Each of those steps, and potential errors, can be eliminated by equipping the sales rep with a solution that interfaces directly with the order processing system.
